Pay a Speeding Ticket
Once you receive a speeding ticket, you have three (3) options.
- You can prepay the ticket and thereby plead guilty to the offense.
- You can appear in court and plead not guilty.
- You can apply for traffic school.
To prepay your ticket, use the worksheet that the officer gave you with your speeding citation. Find the violation amounts on the back and add to the court costs. Mail or bring this amount to Jefferson District Court at 700 West Jefferson Street, Louisville, KY 40202 (Map it). Make a money order payable to the Commonwealth of Kentucky. You can use a credit card but you will need to add the transaction fee to the total costs.
Some tickets may be able to be paid online, to learn more, click here.
To plead not guilty, you need to appear in court on the date listed on the citation.
To apply for traffic school, you first need to make sure that the violation is eligible for traffic school. If there is an asterisk beside your violation on the worksheet, you are eligible for traffic school. You can attend traffic school if you have a valid driver’s license and have not been to traffic school within the last 12 months. To apply, bring your citation, driver’s license and court costs to any Circuit Clerk’s Office. There will be an additional cost for traffic school.
