Safe Medication Disposal

Why is it important to safely dispose of your medications?

According to the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators, the proper disposal of medications has become a global concern with focuses on safety for the public and the environment. Safely getting rid of your unused, unwanted or expired drugs are the first steps to preventing accidental poisonings, drug diversion, drug misuse and addiction.

Federal bodies, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Food and Drug Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency encourage consumers to participate in drug take-back events when possible. Take back events are opportunities to dispose of your medication annonymously at a local pharmacy or law enforcement agency. Several community agencies participate in Take Back Events in Louisville. To find a drug take back event or year-round medication disposal site near you, CLICK HERE.
