Dec 18 2014 Holiday Week Schedules for Waste and Recycling Collection

Solid waste services will be altered under the following schedule for the Christmas and New Year’s holiday weeks:

Garbage/yard waste/recycling

There will be no residential garbage, yard waste or recycling collection on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25 or New Year’s Day, Thursday, January 1 within in the Urban Services District (former Louisville city limits). There will also be no junk/bulk waste collection in either week entirely.

Dec 18 2014 Curbside and Drop-off Christmas Tree Disposal Available

Metro Solid Waste Management will again this year offer curbside pickup of Christmas Trees to residents of the Urban Services District (the old City of Louisville boundaries). Beginning Friday, December 26, residents with City curbside yard waste pickup may set their Christmas trees and greenery out on their regular collection day. Trees must not be in plastic bags.

Gov. Steve Beshear and Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Edumedics LLC, a chronic disease management company, plans to expand its corporate headquarters in Louisville and create 17 new jobs.

Dec 17 2014 Mayor Says Balanced Approach Needed to Raising Minimum Wage; Supports $8.75 An Hour

Mayor Greg Fischer said today he supports raising the minimum wage to $8.75 an hour — which could lead to an annual salary increase of $3,120 for a person working full-time — but he’s not willing to gamble losing 2,000 existing jobs by going to a higher rate and “hurting the very people we are trying to help.”

Dec 12 2014 Proposed Title V Construction Permit for Clariant Corporation

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control District (District) proposes to issue a construction permit to Clariant Corporation (Louisville West Plant) (inorganic chemicals manufacturing plant), 1227 South 12th Street, in accordance with Regulation 2.03.  The 30 day public comment period starts December 17, 2014, and ends on January 16, 2015. A public hearing may be scheduled if the District determines that there are germane, unresolved issues or substantial public interest, in accordance with Regulation 2.07.

Dec 12 2014 Bike Sharing Public Input Meeting Set

Bike sharing is coming to Louisville. Our planned Bikeshare Program could launch as soon as next summer, making bikes available to all for short term use at about 30 sharing stations in and around downtown Louisville.

The public is invited to a meeting to talk about the idea, discuss tentatively selected station locations, and make suggestions for locations. The meeting is scheduled for December 16 at the Urban Design Studio, 507 S 3rd Street from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Governor Steve Beshear and Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Kindred Healthcare Operating Inc. is expected to create up to 500 full-time jobs and construct a new operations center in Theatre Square.

Experience the beauty of a wintery landscape at Jefferson Memorial Forest on Saturday, December 20, when free guided hikes will be offered both morning and evening. All ages are welcome and each hike will begin and end around a warm fire at the forest’s Welcome Center, 11311 Mitchell Hill Road.

The first hike starts at 9 a.m. with hikers themselves choosing the trail the group will follow that morning, based on weather and trail conditions.

Dec 10 2014 Proposed Agreed Board Order with American Synthetic Rubber Company

The Louisville Metro Air Pollution Control Board will hold a public hearing on December 17, 2014, on a proposed Agreed Board Order with American Synthetic Rubber Company. ASRC is alleged to have violated District Regulations 1.07 (Excess Emissions during Startups, Shutdowns, and Upset Conditions) and 2.16 (Title V Operating Permits) at its facility located at 4500 Camp Ground Road.

Louisville’s jobless rate in October is 5.2%, the lowest since November 2007 and evidence that the economy continues to improve. The October 2014 unemployment rate is down 2.5% from October 2013.
