Metro Council’s Budget Committee approves additional funding to deal with homeless issues
The Metro Council’s Budget Committee has approved $546,791 in an effort to deal with the current homeless problem in Metro Louisville. The funding was found as part of the year-end budget adjustment after the completion of audits of the 2017 -2018 Operating and Capital Budgets.

Due to high water, the Mary M. Miller Cruises at Riverview Park have been cancelled for this Sunday, October 7th
Due to high water on the Ohio River, the annual Mary M. Miller cruises from Riverview Park have been cancelled for Sunday October 7th. The vessel’s crew has advised that they will not be able to safely access the boarding site at the park given the expected water levels this weekend.

SWMS Enforcement has impounded 4th vehicle of the year for illegal dumping in District 5
The Solid Waste Management Services Enforcement Department has impounded its 4th vehicle of 2018 for illegal dumping. With the help of employees from Bulk Waste, last week a Uhaul truck in the 2500 block of W Jefferson was seen illegally dumping. The employee took pictures of the vehicle and waited until SWMS Enforcement was able to investigate.

Councilman Rick Blackwell invites community to 7th Annual Riverview Independence Festival for fun, music and fireworks
The Ohio River will come alive with fireworks and fun on Saturday, June 30th at the Riverview Independence Festival presented by Brown-Forman and Kosair Charities. The celebration will be a day of music, entertainment, and family fun in the beautiful southwest park along the Ohio River and this year features an all- new musical lineup and expanded kids activity area!

Louisville Metro Council Passes First in Nation Ordinance
Louisville Metro Council passed an Ordinance requiring nutritional standards and a healthy default beverage in children’s meals, the first in the nation to adopt the combined standards. The so-called “healthy-by-default” rule that passed 13-11 by the Louisville Metro Council aims to tackle the city’s skyrocketing childhood obesity rate and worsening type II diabetes epidemic. This Ordinance follows the National Restaurant Association’s “Kids Live Well” Program.
