By a vote of 24 to 1, the Louisville Metro Council has approved the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Operating Budget for Metro Government. In a unanimous vote, the Council has approved the 2019-2020 Fiscal Year Capital Budget for Metro Government. 

Mar 7 2019 Council Members offer alternative plan to deal with pension situation, budget cuts and new revenue

An alternative proposal has been offered to deal with the $35 million projected deficit in the coming Metro Government budget due to pension obligations, increased health care costs and revenue shortfalls. It calls for raising the insurance tax rate on all forms of insurance, other than health, in a more conservative manner and raising the car rental fee. It also calls for cuts or policy changes in Metro Government departments and all levels of management.

Facing a $65 million-dollar budget gap over the next four years due to increased pension payments, Metro Council President David James along with Caucus Chair Pat Mulvihill, Budget Chair Bill Hollander, and Budget members Barbara Sexton Smith and Markus Winkler are sponsoring an ordinance to increase the city’s tax rates on home, life, marine and miscellaneous insurances.

Dec 6 2018 Metro Council’s Budget Committee approves additional funding to deal with homeless issues

The Metro Council’s Budget Committee has approved $546,791 in an effort to deal with the current homeless problem in Metro Louisville. The funding was found as part of the year-end budget adjustment after the completion of audits of the 2017 -2018 Operating and Capital Budgets.
