Wilderness Louisville, community partners bring two new shelters to Jefferson Memorial Forest
Two new program shelters - the result of a major fundraising effort from Wilderness Louisville and with the support of various local businesses – were dedicated today at Jefferson Memorial Forest in honor of Earth Day and Mayor Greg Fischer’s Give A Day week of service.

Prescribed burn to take place on-site tomorrow in Jefferson Memorial Forest
Metro Parks and Recreation’s Natural Areas Division, along with the Fairdale and Pleasure Ridge Park fire departments and the Olmsted Parks Conservancy, will be carrying out a prescribed burn of approximately 5 acres in Jefferson Memorial Forest tomorrow morning beginning at 10 a.m.

Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center to close for repairs from March 28 - April 10
The Mary T. Meagher Aquatic Center will be closed from March 28 through April 10 for repairs that will include a filter replacement, painting, piping and valve work, installation of new ceramic tile in common areas and cleaning of the restrooms and locker rooms.

Metro Parks hosting public meeting on Loop Jan. 26
Louisville Metro Parks will hold the first public meeting/open house to seek input from the general public on the design of the planned Jefferson Memorial Forest area portions of the Louisville Loop. The meeting will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2016 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Southwest Regional Library, 9725 Dixie Highway, Louisville KY.

An Urban Wilderness Canoe Adventure is coming to Louisville! Join Metro Parks and our partners and canoe the Ohio River, taking off from both Riverview and Shawnee Parks. We will showcase the beauty of the great outdoors... in our own backyard!
Free trips will be conducted in safe and stable 24-foot Voyageurs, which hold 9 participants.
Safety equipment and trained staff will be provided. Event is open to everyone 3 and older.

11th Annual Forest Fest Bluegrass Festival – May 16 at Jefferson Memorial Forest
A spectacular day of Bluegrass music, food, craft vendors and youth activities in a scenic environment awaits those who visit Jefferson Memorial Forest’s eleventh annual Forest Fest on Saturday, May 16.
Forest Fest has been known for providing a great variety of bluegrass music; this year’s event expands on that tradition with six musical acts in the lineup. The music starts at 11 a.m. in the forest’s Horine Section, 12304 Holsclaw Hill Road.

Louisville ECHO Receives Major Funding
The Louisville ECHO program (Louisville is Engaging CHildren Outdoors), Louisville Metro Parks and Recreation’s signature environmental education initiative for fourth-grade students, has received significant support this year with $41,295 in grant funding from the U.S. Forest Service, and $7,500 Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky, Inc.
