Apr 6 2015 Mayor seeks federal disaster aid for flooding; Seven drop-off sites set for flood debris; Number set up for citizens affected by GE fire

Mayor Greg Fischer today continued the city’s action to seek federal disaster assistance in the wake of the recent record flooding by signing an order, declaring a local state of emergency.
Fischer directed the city’s Emergency Management Agency to lead the process of gathering all damage and cost estimates citywide to be able to quickly apply for federal aid related to both individual and public losses stemming from the record rainfall last week.

Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Louisville was recognized for its sustainability efforts, being ranked 24th in the 2015 Top Cities list with the most ENERGY STAR certified buildings.  This is the second year in a row Louisville has made the EPA’s Top Cities list, being ranked 25th in 2014.

Mar 25 2015 Study shows city losing 54,000 trees yearly; Mayor seeks public input to reverse the decline

Releasing a first-of-its-kind survey that shows Louisville is losing 54,000 trees a year, Mayor Greg Fischer today called for public input to help reverse the trend.

The year-long study shows that the city’s tree canopy has declined from 40 percent to 37 percent in eight years—the result of insect damage, ice storms, trees not being replaced and many other factors.

Louisville Metro Parks & Recreation has received $25,000 to engage children and families in West Louisville in outdoor activities as well as summer trips to Mammoth Cave National Park for at-risk teens.
