May 2 2018 Mayor Fischer makes annual Derby wager with Ocala Mayor

Mayor Greg Fischer and Ocala (Florida) Mayor Kent Guinn today made their annual wager on the Kentucky Derby, placing a bottle of Woodford Reserve bourbon and Ocala brandy on the line.

This is the fifth year of the friendly wager between the mayors of the two cities, both of which are steeped in thoroughbred tradition and consider themselves spirited rivals for the status of Horse Capital of the World.

Mayor Greg Fischer joined with U of L Football Coach Bobby Petrino today to announce plans for a special flood relief fund to help aid families who have been hit hard by the flooding.

The fund was created with a $100,000 donation from Bobby and Becky Petrino and the Petrino Family Foundation, as part of its #LoveLouisville campaign, and will go to families displaced by the flood, as well as to help people cover some of their clean-up and recovery costs.

This year’s Give A Day week is set for April 14-22, although the Mayor noted that many projects will be under way earlier, to avoid conflicts with Thunder over Louisville at the end of the week. Give A Day is an official Kentucky Derby Festival event, and kicks off the festival season.
