Sep 27 2016 Early LIHEAP Registration for Elderly and Disabled Individuals Begins Monday, October 3

Home heating costs can be a large expense for families in the winter, so Louisville Metro Department of Community Services will begin accepting pre-registration heating assistance applications on Monday, October 3, 2016. The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides financial assistance to help income eligible residents pay utility bills. 

Pre-registration is for Jefferson County residents who meet the following criteria:

Louisville’s homeless population will have an opportunity to access services, information and assistance in a one-stop environment at the 2016 Project Homeless Connect/VA Stand Down, on Wednesday, October 5. Resources available at the event will include food, clothing, medical evaluations, help with employment, education and benefit services and many other forms of assistance.

Aug 11 2016 Scam Jam Offers Seniors Tips on Securing Savings, Identity

The Kentucky Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) has partnered with AARP Kentucky, the Kentucky Attorney General's Office, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, Louisville Metro Office for Aging & Disabled Citizens (OADC), and Senior Medicare Patrol to host Senior Scam Jam on Tuesday, August 16.  The event will be held from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at St. Matthews Community Center located at 310 Ten Pin Lane.

Jun 23 2016 Electric Fans Needed for Local Seniors and Disabled Residents

Donations accepted through July 8; Fan giveaway on July 16

As the temperature climbs outside, fan donations are needed for local seniors and persons with physical disabilities. KIPDA Area Agency on Aging and Independent Living is joining forces with Louisville Metro Office for Aging & Disabled Citizens (OADC) to collect and distribute electric fans to those needy individuals in our community.

Jun 17 2016 Mayor Fischer announces 13 “microenterprise” loans to local small businesses

Mayor Greg Fischer today announced the 13 local businesses that will receive loans from a Louisville Metro Government program for local “microenterprises.”

The recipients, all low- to moderate-income entrepreneurs, include a video production group, an event rental space, a fashion business, a tax service, two childcare facilities, and four catering businesses. Microenterprises are businesses that employee five or fewer individuals, including the owner.
