Mayor Greg Fischer has named Katina Whitlock as the new Director of Louisville Metro Community Services, the department which reduces homelessness, assists with household financial stability, advocates for targeted populations and improves the overall quality of life for families across our community.

Low Income Heating Assistance Program Begins Nov. 3
The annual program that helps low income residents of Louisville with their utility bills begins Nov. 3. LIHEAP, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, is a federally funded program operated by Community Action Partnership, part of Louisville Metro Community Services. The Subsidy Phase of LIHEAP will run this year from Nov. 3 through Dec. 11.

2014 Neighborhood Place Annual Day
Neighborhood Place, Louisville’s award-winning model of providing services to citizens, will have its “Annual Day” conference to celebrate accomplishments and explore new ideas for providing assistance. More than 350 individuals and many partner groups are expected to attend the Neighborhood Place Annual Day, Oct. 24 at the Fern Valley Inn Hotel and Conference Center, 2715 Fern Valley Rd., between 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Free Lead Inspections Available in Louisville
To help prevent childhood lead poisoning, the Lead-Safe Louisville Project is sponsoring free lead inspections to qualified homeowners. Lead-Safe Louisville joins in National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week, October 19 - 25, to promote the importance of testing your home, testing your child, and learning how to prevent lead poisoning’s serious health effects.

LIHEAP Subsidy Pre-Registration starts in October
The Louisville Metro Community Action Partnership’s LIHEAP Program (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) is a federally funded program that provides financial assistance to help low-income residents pay utility bills. The Subsidy component of LIHEAP will begin November 3, 2014.

2014 Louisville Project Homeless Connect/Stand Down
Louisville’s homeless population will have an opportunity to access services, information and assistance in a one-stop environment at the 2014 Project Homeless Connect/VA Stand Down, on Wednesday, October 8. Resources available at the event will include food, clothing, medical evaluations, help with employment, education and benefit services and many other forms of assistance.

Louisville Metro TRIAD to Host 14th Annual Senior Day Out
Seniors and disabled individuals are encouraged to attend the 2014 Senior Day Out at the Kentucky International Convention Center on Tues., Oct. 7 to experience educational exhibits, health screenings, guest speakers, dancing, Bingo and much more. The informative and social event in its 14th year is expecting more than 2,500 for fun and fellowship. Participants who pre-registered will enjoy a complimentary lunch.
