From the assembly line to engineering to precision stamping and molding, nearly 150 area students are getting an up close and hands-on view of manufacturing at five companies this week.

The tours were developed by KentuckuckianaWorks and Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana as part of a series of activities during national Manufacturing Month.

Mayor Greg Fischer announced today that Louisville is partnering with online marketplace provider Etsy to launch the city’s inaugural Craft Entrepreneurship Program. The three-week program will provide micro-business training to underemployed, low-income adults with existing creative skills to help supplement their income and sell their products to new markets.

Jun 30 2015 Mayor’s SummerWorks program putting 2,500 youth in jobs this summer

For the fifth consecutive year, Mayor Greg Fischer’s SummerWorks program has grown and this summer is placing 2,500 youth, ages 16-21, in jobs at companies and organizations throughout the community. This year’s numbers include 200 jobs for low-income youth funded by $500,000 provided by the state Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) program.

Mayor Fischer joined Gov. Beshear and community officials to celebrate Site Selection magazine naming Kentucky the top state for economic development projects per capita last year. The nationally acclaimed publication also recognizes Kentucky’s top metropolitan areas for their economic development successes, ranking Louisville ninth in the top tier category for population over 1 million.
