Mayor Fischer and GLI President/CEO Kent Oyler unveil Global Louisville Action Plan
Mayor Greg Fischer and Kent Oyler, President and CEO of Greater Louisville, Inc. (GLI), the metro chamber of commerce, were joined by members of Louisville’s foreign-born and professional communities today as they unveiled the Global Louisville Action Plan.
The plan is a collaborative effort among the Mayor’s Office, GLI and hundreds of community members, and outlines key strategies to attract, retain and grow Louisville’s foreign-born population and workforce. It provides an overview of the region’s foreign-born population and a set of action steps to increase the number of immigrants here and their capacity to thrive.

Two small businesses receive loans from city
The city has awarded loans totaling $95,000 to two small businesses to help them renovate or expand. The loans have been awarded by Louisville Forward Economic Development’s Metropolitan Business Development Corporation (METCO) and the Department of Community Services’ Microbusiness Development Program.

Louisville sets new record in education attainment
Louisville’s adult population has set a new record for college attainment, according to 2015 data released this week from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Highlights of the data include: The percentage of working-age adults with at least an associate degree now stands at 44.7 percent, up 3 percentage points over the previous year.
The percentage with at least a bachelor’s degree was also up to 35.7 percent, a 2.4 percentage point increase.

High-schoolers to experience manufacturing jobs
In recognition of October as Manufacturing Month, area students this month will visit manufacturing plants, job shadow workers and get a virtual tour of GE’s Appliance Park – all efforts to expose them to potential careers in manufacturing and create a new flow of skilled employees to fill good-paying jobs.

City of Louisville Announces EMT Recruit Class
LOUISVILLE, Ky., September 12, 2016 – The city of Louisville announced today that it is filling an EMT Recruit Class and is now accepting applications. EMT Recruits will attend a paid training in preparation for obtaining an EMT Certification. Training is expected to start by January 2017 and will consist of class five days a week from 8am-4pm.

Mayor Fischer and Midea break ground on new facility
Mayor Greg Fischer and Midea officials broke ground today on Midea’s new research and development facility called Midea America Research Center (MARC) at 2701 Chestnut Station Court. Midea, an electrical appliance manufacturer, has invested $10 million and will create up to 60 jobs at MARC.
