Oct 25 2016 Louisville sets new record in education attainment

Louisville’s adult population has set a new record for college attainment, according to 2015 data released this week from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Highlights of the data include:  The percentage of working-age adults with at least an associate degree now stands at 44.7 percent, up 3 percentage points over the previous year. 

The percentage with at least a bachelor’s degree was also up to 35.7 percent, a 2.4 percentage point increase.

In recognition of October as Manufacturing Month, area students this month will visit manufacturing plants, job shadow workers and get a virtual tour of GE’s Appliance Park – all efforts to expose them to potential careers in manufacturing and create a new flow of skilled employees to fill good-paying jobs. 

Sep 12 2016 City of Louisville Announces EMT Recruit Class

LOUISVILLE, Ky., September 12, 2016 – The city of Louisville announced today that it is filling an EMT Recruit Class and is now accepting applications. EMT Recruits will attend a paid training in preparation for obtaining an EMT Certification. Training is expected to start by January 2017 and will consist of class five days a week from 8am-4pm.

Aug 30 2016 Mayor Fischer and Midea break ground on new facility

Mayor Greg Fischer and Midea officials broke ground today on Midea’s new research and development facility called Midea America Research Center (MARC) at 2701 Chestnut Station Court. Midea, an electrical appliance manufacturer, has invested $10 million and will create up to 60 jobs at MARC.

During the month of July, the city awarded loans totaling $145,000 to nine small businesses to help them start, improve or expand. The loans have been awarded by Louisville Forward Economic Development’s Metropolitan Business Development Corporation (METCO) and the Department of Community Services’ Microbusiness Development loan programs.
