World Day of Social Justice

February 20, 2021

The United Nations recognizes February 20th as the World Day of Social Justice. Social justice refers to equity in opportunity, personal liberties and privileges, social mobility, and the distribution of wealth within a society.

This year’s theme for the World Day of Social Justice is A Call for Justice in the Digital Economy, which recognizes that the digital divide is a detriment to the building of wealth in both developed and developing nations. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, with non-traditional school instruction and many adults excluded from the workforce due either to a lack of access or digital literacy, the digital divide has not only compounded, but its effects in society are more apparent than ever before.

Efforts are ongoing to narrow the digital divide so that more people can participate equally in today’s digital society. Find out more about the UN’s World Day of Social Justice, digital inclusion, and economic development at the links below.
