Winners Announced for Louisville pure tap® 5K

July 9, 2015

With nearly 1,100 registered participants, the Louisville pure tap® 5K went off this morning under warm and partly sunny skies at race start.  The race along Zorn Avenue followed the route your water takes every day as part of Louisville Water's production of 116 million gallons of drinking water. Mike Horan of Goshen, Kentucky, won the men's division in a time of 16:44.71, edging second-place finisher Mike Deren of Louisville, Kentucky, who clocked a time of 17:07.54. Anna Schreiner of Louisville, Kentucky, won the women’s division in 20:12.65, beating Andrea Gibson of Charlestown, Indiana, who finished in 21:45.01. In addition, more than 125 youth from the Kids Finish First presented by KentuckyOne Health program kicked off their half marathon training at the Louisville pure tap® 5K’s start line.  The program was launched in 2012 as a pilot project between the YMCA of Greater Louisville and the Louisville Sports Commission to encourage local children between the ages of five and 14 to take steps toward an active lifestyle by training to complete a half marathon - 13.1 miles - in small increments. The kids will finish their training on Oct. 25 at the Louisville Sports Commission’s Urban Bourbon Half Marathon.
