Walk this Way

December 17, 2014
Monday, December 15, 2014Ready for a walk?  The path around the Crescent Hill Reservoir is once again completely open!   The exterior restoration of the Gatehouse, the building that sits in between the reservoir basins, has been completed. Some portions of the work required a portion of the walking path to be closed for several months, but we are pleased to report the full loop is now accessible.  The Crescent Hill Reservoir is open to walkers and runners from dawn to dusk daily unless there is icy weather.  Louisville Water still has work to do to complete the interior of the Gatehouse.  The final fencing will come down over the winter.  Constructed between 1876 and 1879, the Crescent Hill Gatehouse contains the valves that originally controlled the flow of water in and out of the basins.  It is Gothic-style architecture, resembling a castle along the Rhine River.  Both the Crescent Hill Reservoir and Gatehouse are Kentucky Historic Marker sites. The path around the reservoir is nearly one mile. It already boasts a new clock, and is soon to be adorned with new flags bearing historical facts. Watch for upcoming information regaarding an Open House this spring so we can share the restored beauty of the Gate House.
