Urban Government Center proposals to be reviewed at April 17 public meeting

April 5, 2017

Louisville Forward, in partnership with Metro Council Districts 4 and 8, will host a public meeting on April 17 from 6-8 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Louisville Free Public Library (301 York Street). The meeting will provide an opportunity for community members to hear and to respond to presentations from development teams that submitted complete responses to a Solicitation of Interest for Louisville Metro Government’s Urban Government Center property.

Development teams will give a Pecha Kucha-style presentation during which they will describe their responses to the Solicitation of Interest. Following the conclusion of presentations, community members will be able to visit with each developer and provide feedback to Louisville Forward staff on each response during an open-house style session.

"It is my hope we will fill the Main Library with neighbors willing to evaluate the proposals and share their views,” Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith (D-4) said. “Community engagement is a priority and every voice matters. Together, we'll create a great connected community for all!"

“Ensuring smart redevelopment of the Urban Government Center is part of my strategic plan for the Original Highlands and District 8,” Councilman Brandon Coan (D-8) said. “In this case, ‘smart’ means not only mixed-use and transit-oriented, but redevelopment that listens to citizens and is in line with neighborhood planning, as well. I strongly encourage folks to come out and help us vet these proposals.”

All complete responses to the Solicitation of Interest will be available on the Office of Advanced Planning’s website beginning April 12 for public review before the meeting. Developer presentations will be recorded and posted to the website following the April 17 meeting. Public comment will be accepted through May 17 via a comment form on the website and Develop Louisville social media channels.

At the conclusion of the public comment period, all comments will be reviewed by a committee that will make recommendations on responses that will move to the next stage of the review.
