Statement by Mayor Greg Fischer on the release of the PIU file
Statement by Mayor Greg Fischer on the release of the PIU file:
“Earlier today, the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) released the Public Integrity Unit’s investigative files on the Breonna Taylor case; the files can be found here.
"Following the decision of the Grand Jury announced by Attorney General Daniel Cameron, it was important to release the PIU files as quickly as possible to the public, after making necessary redactions. Much of the information in these files was included in records from the Grand Jury proceedings that were released last week.
"I urge all to be sensitive that these files contain information and images that are traumatic and painful. I ask the media to be mindful of this fact as they decide how to share the file’s contents.
"Pursuant to LMPD procedures, the PIU files have been forwarded for investigation of administrative violations to the Professional Standards Unit. The investigative findings will then be forwarded to the Chief of Police for her conclusion.
"Relatedly, my administration has resolved the civil suit brought by the Taylor estate against the officers. Also, multiple LMPD policy reform initiatives are either complete or underway. Finally, the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s case remains ongoing.” -- Mayor Greg Fischer
