Public Safety Committee to be updated on rape and sexual assault investigations and prosecution in Louisville Metro

February 25, 2020

Louisville – Lieutenant Shannon Lauder, of the Louisville Metro Police Department Special Victims Unit has been asked to testify before the Metro Council’s Public Safety Committee regarding investigations of rape and sexual assault in the city on Wednesday, February 26th.

“A recent media report indicated many rapes and assaults go uninvestigated because prosecutors and police decide before any investigation not to pursue it,” says Councilwoman Jessica Green (D-1), who chairs the Public Safety Committee. “I believe that sends the wrong message to current and future victims of these crimes and our committee would like to know why this is happening.”

The Councilwoman has also invited the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to attend.

The Public Safety Committee will meet at 3:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, Historic City Hall, 601 West Jefferson Street.

The meeting will be carried live on Metro TV, Spectrum Cable Channel 184 or on UVERSE at Channel 99.

All meetings of the Metro Council are streamed live. Go to the Metro Council Home page at www.Louisvilleky.gov/metrocouncil  and click on the Metro Council Agendas link.
