President Tandy to participate Men of Quality’s 2015 Lifestyle Choices Forum

March 15, 2015

Louisville – President David Tandy (D-4) will be on hand to bring greetings and deliver a message on the importance of education and taking control of one's own destiny when he addresses the 2015 Lifestyles Choices Forum which is part of the Men of Quality program on Monday, March 16th.

“Education has been and continues to be one of the most powerful ways for a person or a community to transform itself for generations,” says Tandy. “Whether it comes in the form of going to college, getting a certificate from a vocational  school or listening to the wisdom of a mentor, the continual quest of knowledge and self-improvement is what will not only allow for Louisvillians to thrive but will make our city a destination point for people around the world. ”

For 19 years, Theta Omega Inc., a non-profit organization comprised of members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.’s Louisville graduate chapter, has sponsored this conference as a way to enhance and change the lives of young African American men.  This conference in part of a broader nationally recognized mentoring program called, Men of  Quality, which is conducted in partnership with the Jefferson County Public School System.

Some 700 students are expected to participate in the forum as well as the mentoring program this year with 100 adults serving as mentors. The purpose of the conference is to encourage these young men to use education to achieve their goals in life.

President Tandy believes that with the rising number of homicides and accounts of senseless violence in our community, programs such as this have an influential impact on the direction of young people. He applauds those organizations who take an active role in reaching out to students.

“It is with the utmost level of appreciation as a father; a citizen and a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. that I offer my sincere thanks to the men of Theta Omega chapter for all that you do to serve our community,” says Tandy. “I am confident history will show that the progress we will have made as a community would not be possible, in part, without the contributions of the Men of Quality program, the Lifestyles Choices Forum and the selfless work of men and women in this community like those of the Theta Omega chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.”

President Tandy will address The Lifestyle Choices Forum at 12:30pm on Monday March 16th. The Forum is being held in the Student Activities Center of the University of Louisville.
