Neighborhood Place Partners Offer Two Job Recruitment Events, Community Health Fair and More

Neighborhood Place partners offer numerous workshops in October including two job recruitment events with Sodexo and Kroger, several health-related events including a Community Health Fair, and a workshop geared to individuals who have experienced abuse in their intimate relationships.  To learn more about these offerings and several others please refer to the list below.

Two Opportunities for Freedom from Smoking Classes in Fairdale
Call 772-8588 to register or for more information. Join this weekly group on Wednesdays or Saturdays to get the support you need to be free from smoking,  Support will be provided on stress management, creating a personal plan and  avoiding weight gain.  All classes are free.  Sponsored by the Family Health Centers.

Oct. 4 and 9, WeCare Energy Efficiency Overview
Call 1-800-356-5467 for more information.  Representatives from the WeCare Program at LG&E will be on hand to talk with interested persons about energy efficiency, energy usage and tips to reduce utility bills. WeCare staff can also help determine if households are eligible for a variety of free services including air duct sealing and insulation, attic and wall insulation, programmable thermostats and much more.

Oct. 5, 6, 12 and 13, Diabetes Education Classes at the Charmoli Center Neighborhood Place, 10 a.m. -12 p.m.
Located at 200 Juneau Dr., Suite 200.  Call 502-574-6663 to sign up.  Join this four week series to learn the latest information on managing diabetes including healthy eating, developing an active lifestyle, taking medications and reducing health risks. 

Oct. 5, A Healthy Journey for Two Educational Baby Shower at First Neighborhood Place, 1- 3 p.m.
Located at 1503 Rangeland Rd.  Contact Mendy Mason at 341-5400 to register or for more information. A Healthy Journey for Two is an educational baby shower open to any expectant mothers.  The class will include a range of information and resources, as well as free baby items, gift cards, prizes, and snacks.  Hosted by Seven Counties and KIDSNow.  Fathers are welcome but must be registered.

Mondays and Thursdays, YMCA’s “Caring and Learning with Me” program at Thomas Jefferson Middle School
Located at 1501 Rangeland Rd. (W.D. Bruce – Physical Education Building).  Call Keyonna Humphrey at 974-8457 for more information and to register.  This free program provides a wonderful learning environment for children ages 3-5 years old and their caregivers focusing on play and exploration.  The adult caregiver is required to attend with the child/ren and you may also bring other children ages (0-2). Sponsored by the YMCA with support from First Neighborhood Place.

Oct. 7, Community Health Fair at Meadowlawn Baptist Church, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Located at 12103 East Orell Rd.  Call 363-1483 for more information.  Join a morning of fun learning new ways to stay healthy.  Many agencies will be on hand to provide demonstrations, health screenings and giveaways.  Free resources for the entire family.  Sponsored in part by South Jefferson Neighborhood Place, Family Health Centers and other collaborative community partners. 

Oct. 9, HIV Outreach and Screening at NorthWest Neighborhood Place, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Located at 4018 W. Market St.  Call 485-7230 for more information.  Representatives from Volunteers of America will be conducting free HIV screenings as well as providing informational sexual health resources for the community.  For more information on HIV and HIV educational/prevention programs, please call the Kentucky HIV Help Hotline at 1-844-294-2448. 

Oct. 10, Healthy Living Club at South Jefferson Neighborhood Place, 1 – 2 p.m.
Located at 1000 Neighborhood Place.  Call 363-1483 for more information.  Join the support group on the second Tuesday of every month to discuss healthy living and to get the support you need to eat better, get active, and lose weight.  The month's group will learn an exercise plan that will fit everyone’s abilities with focus on how to get active and keep moving.

Oct. 10, Foster Parent Recruitment Meeting at First Neighborhood Place, 6 – 8 p.m.
Located at 1503 Rangeland Rd., side of Thomas Jefferson Middle School.  Call 595-5437 (KIDS) for more information.  Detailed information will be provided on the requirements and process of how to become a foster or adoptive parent.  Information such as an explanation of foster care, special needs adoption, and information on foster parent training classes will be provided.  Sponsored by Kentucky Foster Care and the Special Needs Adoption Program.          

Oct. 13 and 27, Choices Healthy Partner Relationship Workshop at NorthWest Neighborhood Place, 2 – 4 p.m.
Located at  4018 West Market St.  Call 313-4892 to register.  The workshop is facilitated by the Center for Women and Families’ domestic violence advocates, a psycho-educational group for women, men, and teens who have experienced abuse in their intimate relationships.  The objectives of the group are to raise awareness about intimate partner violence and the supportive services that are available; support and encourage participants’ healing and reconciliation of their experiences; and to prepare the participants to practice self-care and engage in healthy relationships going forward.

Oct. 17 – Nov. 21, Living Well Workshop at South Jefferson Neighborhood Place, 1- 3 p.m.
Located at 1000 Neighborhood Place.  Call 772-8588 to register. Do you have diabetes, high blood pressure, pain, asthma, arthritis, depression or other ongoing health problems?  This program offers free support and can help you learn to  manage your health.  Earn an 8-week YMCA membership just for attending. Sponsored by Family Health Centers and the YMCA.

Oct. 17, Sodexo Hiring Opportunities at T. J. Middle School, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Located at 1503 Rangeland Rd. Call 313-4700 for more information.  Sodexo, a food-service agency, will provide on-the-spot interviews for positions with Jewish Hospital, Our Lady of Peace and University of Louisville Hospital. Oct. 19, Legal Aid Representative at South Jefferson Neighborhood Place, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Located at 1000 Neighborhood Place.  Call 363-1483 for more information.  A representative from Legal Aid will be on hand to discuss issues surrounding domestic violence, Emergency Protective Orders and making a safety plan for all family members.  Stop by to discuss your situation.  All matters are confidential.

Oct. 25, Community Dental Care Information Sessions 
Call 366-4442 for more information.  Community Dental Care is a full-service dental organization designed to increase access to health care in communities with the goal of improving the overall health of the population. Representatives will be on site to provide information about services offered and to assist in scheduling appointments for dental needs or for pediatric health needs.

Oct. 26, Kroger Recruitment Job Event at NorthWest Neighborhood Place, 10 a.m. -  2 p.m.
Located at 4018 West Market St. NorthWest Neighborhood Place is partnering with Kroger to host a recruitment job event in efforts to assist families in their journey to self-sufficiency. If you are  looking for employment and/or a part-time job opportunity, join us at this job event for on-site interviews. Business attire is required (no jeans, hats, sportswear or costumes) with resume in hand.
