Neighborhood Place Partners offer multiple opportunities in December
Neighborhood Place locations in Louisville will offer free events and workshops for the entire family in December including healthy cooking classes, opportunities to meet with Legal Aid staff, a workshop addressing childhood trauma and much more. Dec. 5, Overview of Childhood Trauma Workshop at South Jefferson Neighborhood Place, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Located at 1000 Neighborhood Place in Fairdale, KY. RSVP required by calling 338-9046 or 363-1483 or for more information. The Childhood Trauma Workshop will address the different types of trauma, the relationship between trauma and a child’s behavior and the impact of trauma on parenting and caregiving. Sponsored and facilitated by the Center for Promoting Recovery and Resilience of Traumatized Children and Youth at the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work.

First and Third Tuesdays, Legal Aid Office Hours at South Central Neighborhood Place, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Located at 4255 Hazelwood Ave. Call 485-7130 for more information. The first and third Tuesday of each month, a legal aid staff member will be on hand at South Central Neighborhood Place to answer questions, talk about cases that Legal Aid Society handles and provide referrals.

Dec. 9 and 16, Here’s to My Health at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 6 - 7 p.m.

Get some healthy tips on holiday cooking and shopping to help prepare simple, nutritious and delicious recipes while developing healthier food choices. Free tasting and give-a-ways will be offered. Sponsored by the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service.
Dec. 12 - 23, Christmas Holiday Outreach with support from NorthWest Neighborhood Place
NorthWest Neighborhood Place is joining in the 2014 Ending Hunger Project which will provide holiday baskets to 700 families of students at the Academy of Shawnee and Shawnee Early Childhood Educational Center. The project will also provide 100,000 meals for international orphans in Haiti, Guatemala and Liberia. This collaborative effort includes The New Breed Church, The Academy at Shawnee, Empowering Hope International (Liberia), YUM Brands Lift a Life Foundation and Lead2Feed, Open Door Ministries of Louisville (Guatemala), Ross’s Haiti Organization, Kids Against Hunger, ValuMarket and numerous individual contributors, community leaders, mentors, parents and teachers. Dec. 30, Celebrating Ujima -- a Kwanzaa reception at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Located at 3610 Bohne Ave. Call 485-6145 for more information. In honor of Ujima, the third principle of Kwanzaa meaning collective work and responsibility, community members are invited to gather for networking opportunities and to explore ideas for community collaborations.

Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28, Healthy Nutrition and Cooking at Bridges of Hope Neighborhood Place, 1 – 3 p.m.
Located at 1411 Algonquin Pkwy. RSVP required by calling 634-6057 and for more information. This healthy initiative cooking class is offered by the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. All are invited to learn how to use nutritious, low-cost ingredients plus tips on food resource management.
