Neighborhood Place Partners Offer Free Budgeting and Healthy Holiday Cooking Workshops

Neighborhood Place locations in Louisville will offer free workshops in November to learn how to save money, cook healthier, reduce energy usage this winter plus much more.  To learn more about these services, including reservation requirements and contact information, please refer to the phone numbers listed by each event.

Tuesdays, Couponing Support Group at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. Located at 3610 Bohne Ave. For more information call 485-6145 to register. Learn tips and money-saving ideas to help build extra financial wealth in using coupons while grocery shopping. Facilitated by couponing guru, Kim Mapp.  No class on Nov. 3.

Nov. 3 and 10, Saving for the Holidays and Cooking Healthy on a Budget at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 10 - 11 a.m.
Located at 3610 Bohne Ave.  Call 485-6145 for more information.  Valerie Holland with University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension will provide ideas and steps toward having control over holiday spending and cooking healthy holiday meals on budget.

Nov. 4 and Nov. 18, Legal Aid Office Hours at South Central Neighborhood Place, 10 a.m. – 12 pm Located at 4255 Hazelwood Ave. Call 485-7130 for more information. A Legal Aid Society staff member will be on hand to answer questions, talk about cases that Legal Aid handles and provide referrals.

Nov. 10 Free Blood Pressure Checks at Ujima Neighborhood Place, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Located at 3610 Bohne Ave. Call 485-6145 for more information. Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness health educators will be on hand to provide free blood pressure checks.
 

Nov. 10, 11, and 19, Healthy Journey For Two Educational Baby Shower 
RSVP is required to Mendy Mason at 502-341-5400 or [email protected].  Seven Counties and KIDSNow Plus hosts these educational baby showers to share information on how to care for yourself and your baby while being pregnant. Explore the do’s and don’ts of a healthy pregnancy in a free, fun setting. Pregnant attendees receive a baby tote filled with baby items and a gas/gift card, with more chances to win prizes like gift/layette set(s), bottle sets and more.

Nov. 12, 17, 18 and 24, WeCare Energy Efficiency Overview Call 1-800-356-5467 for more information.  Representatives from the WeCare Program at LG&E will be on hand to talk with interested persons about energy efficiency, energy usage and tips to reduce utility bills.  WeCare staff can also help determine if households are eligible for a variety of free services including air duct sealing and insulation, attic and wall insulation, programmable thermostats and much more.

Nov. 12, Energy Management Workshops at South Central Neighborhood Place, 1 - 2:30 p.m.
Located at 4255 Hazelwood Ave. Call 485-7135 to register. Project Warm's free workshops help families take control of their energy usage and learn "do-it-yourself" energy-saving tips. Free supplies will be distributed at the end of the workshop such as clear plastic/tape for windows, caulk to seal openings around windows and sealing foam.

 

Nov. 14 and 21, 2Not1 Teen Fatherhood University at First Neighborhood Place, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Located at TJ Middle School, 1503 Rangeland Rd.  Sign up online at www.2NOT1.org or contact Georgia Turner at (502) 509-9637.  Teen Fatherhood University (TFU) offers this program for young fathers ages 16-24 to provide support and improve parenting skills.  Light meals are provided and for each session attended, participants receive a chance to win a flat screen color television to enjoy with their families.  Teen Fatherhood University is sponsored by Louisville Metro Government, Plymouth Community & Renewal Center and facilitated by 2NOT1 Fatherhood & Families, Inc.

 
Nov. 17, Simple Ways to Boost Your Credit Score at South Central Neighborhood Place, 12 - 1 p.m.

Located at 4255 Hazelwood Ave. Call 574-1969 for more information and to register. Come learn ways to boost your credit score and make the most of your money. Free lunch will be provided.  Sponsored by Bank on Louisville and Fifth Third Bank.

Nov. 17, Making the Most of Your Income at Southwick Community Center, 1 - 3 p.m.
Located at 3621 Southern Ave. RSVP with Donna Tyus at 485-6491.  An experienced financial services specialist with Apprisen will present information to allow participants to identify money personalities, elements of a spending plan, savings tips, what to do when the budget does not balance. All participants will receive a coupon to complete a free one on one personalized “Credit Health Education Session” where a certified counselor will educate you in all things credit report and scores related, review your credit reports and scores with you, and help you develop a personalized credit plan to improve your financial future.


Nov. 17, Foster Care and Adoption Information Session at First Neighborhood Place, 6 - 8 p.m.

Nov. 18, Nutrition Education Class at South Central Neighborhood Place, 1 - 2 p.m. Located at 4255 Hazelwood Ave.  Call 569-2344 or 487-7135 for more information and to sign up for classes.  This session will help families learn about basic nutrition and healthy cooking and eating. Individuals and families are invited to bring their nutritional concerns to the class as nutritional professionals will be available to provide answers. Cooking demos may be provided pending the number of registrations.  Sponsored by the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service.


Nov. 20, Healthy Holiday Foods  -- It’s A Matter of Choice at South Jefferson Neighborhood Place – Fairdale, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Located at 1000 Neighborhood Place. For more information or to register call 363-1483.  Taste new and healthy recipes for holiday treats.  Learn some tricks to make old favorites more healthy.  Each participant will receive recipes, a snack lunch and register to win a gift card to Kroger. Facilitated by Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service.
