Mayor Fischer Names John Gant Director of Economic Development
Mayor Greg Fischer today announced John Gant as the new Director of Economic Development.
Gant, a Louisville native, brings a wealth of experience in advanced manufacturing, civic engagement, domestic and international sales and management to the Louisville Forward team.
Advancing to General Manager of Carbide Industries LLC, Gant negotiated and implemented two projects in China, executed numerous cost reduction projects and developed strong relationships with his customers and internal team since his start with the company in 2004.
“John will continue our economic culture of innovation and entrepreneurism,” Fischer said. “We need the best and brightest leaders to attract 21st century jobs and develop relationships with our existing companies. John’s experience and passion for the city will do just that.”
A graduate of Ballard High School, Gant earned a Bachelor of Arts in Geology and a Master of Science in Environmental Science, both from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
Gant successfully led manufacturing plants in Indiana, New York and Kentucky.
I am thrilled to be a part of this team,” said Gant. “Mayor Fischer runs the city like a business and that is very attractive to me. I love this city and can’t think of a better way to show it than by making a contribution to the future, specifically developing Louisville’s five key economic sectors.”
Those sectors include: food and beverage, logistics and e-commerce, lifelong wellness and aging care, business services and advanced manufacturing.
“John’s professional experience and commitment to this community is a perfect combination for advancing our agenda to improve wages and quality of life,” said Louisville Forward Chief Mary Ellen Wiederwohl.
Gant will start his new role December 1, 2014.
