Louisville Water Launches Purely Local Business Initiative
Louisville Water has launched a new campaign that calls attention to water’s role in making the community work. The “purely local” initiative is part of the Louisville pure tap® campaign and encourages businesses to focus on the health benefits and economic value of tap water. Louisville Water announced the campaign as part of “National Drinking Water Week.” “purely local” is a partnership between Louisville Water and area businesses that provides branded signage and easy to use containers, such as reusable pitchers, compostable cups and refillable bottles that make it easy to serve Louisville pure tap®. Along with the recognized health benefits of water, the initiative also seeks to emphasize the importance of using locally sourced products and maintaining a “greener” community with a much smaller environmental footprint. “A safe, healthy and great-tasting water supply is a lifeline for this community,” said Mayor Greg Fischer. “And that is why it is so important that Louisville Water is increasing its efforts to make sure people are aware of how easily and affordably they can 'get back to the tap.' What better way to reach them than in local businesses where they work, shop, eat and play?” Nearly 30 businesses/organizations are already participating in the “purely local” initiative including a number of members of the Frankfort Avenue Business Association and the Louisville Independent Business Alliance such as Comfy Cow Ice Cream Shop, the Clifton Center, Fleet Feet, Margaret’s Consignment and Nancy’s Bagel Grinds. All participating businesses are listed on the Louisville pure tap® website at louisvillepuretap.com. The site also includes a complete listing of available materials and signage, including window clings, water cooler or fountain wraps, soda dispenser labels and pet bowls. “We are very excited to be part of this program that let’s us be responsive to our customers while being good citizens of our business community,” said Tim Koons-McGee of Comfy Cow. “We would encourage all Louisville businesses to get involved and do their part in endorsing the value of our community’s drinking water to their operations.” As part of the “purely local” rollout, Louisville Water will be on the lookout from now until September 30, 2014 for Louisville residents enjoying a pure tap® moment. Anyone spotted enjoying pure tap® at a “purely local” business will be entered in a drawing for a grand prize package including gift certificates and merchandise donated by “purely local” businesses. Efforts to promote Louisville’s drinking water actually began 18 years ago when in 1996, Louisville Water was the first water provider in the country to brand its tap water and is consistently ranked as the best-tasting tap water in the country. The Louisville pure tap® program focuses on the quality, innovation and value of tap water by providing highly visible “pure tap® to GO” Fill Stations at many of Louisville’s festivals, concerts and other events to encourage people to “get back to the tap.” Louisville Water branded fountains are located at such popular destinations as KFC YUM! Center, the Louisville Zoo, the University of Louisville’s Patterson Baseball Stadium and Waterfront Park. In addition, the campaign has developed education programs and curricula that have spawned a number of successful educational partnerships with Jefferson County Public Schools, the Archdiocese of Louisville and the Kentucky Science Center. The “purely local” initiative is such an important opportunity for us,” said Louisville Water president and CEO Jim Brammell. “Louisville Water has championed the importance and value of water for decades through our education and outreach programs. Public health has been the core of what we do since 1860. It is exciting to have so many in the business community becoming part of the team.” For more information about “purely local,” “pure tap®” and other Louisville Water events and activities, contact Kelley Dearing Smith.
