Louisville Metro Comprehensive Review Commission will host series of public comment meetings
Louisville (July 10, 2023) – The Louisville Metro Comprehensive Review Commission, otherwise known as the HB 314 Commission, was approved by the 2022 General Assembly. The Commission is comprised of fifteen-members, three members each from the State Senate, State House of Representatives, Metro Council and GLI; the three other representatives are from the Metro Mayor, Jefferson County League of Cities, and suburban fire districts.
The Commission held their initial meeting on August 12, 2022, and have been meeting monthly to study six duties tasked to them by the General Assembly including:
- Review the accomplishments and insufficiencies, if any, and recommendations for any statutory changes.
- Review the roles and duties of the mayor and the legislative council as it relates to duties, oversight, budgeting, and administration of Metro and make recommendations for either internal or statutory changes.
- Review intergovernmental relations between Metro and the suburban cities and special service districts and make recommendations for either internal or statutory changes.
- Review tax powers and funding of Louisville Metro Government and the suburban cities and special service districts and make recommendations for either internal or statutory changes.
- Review the distribution and provision of governmental services between the Louisville Metro Government and the suburban cities and special service districts and make recommendations for either internal or statutory changes.
- Review the future of relations between the Louisville Metro Government and the suburban cities and special service districts and make recommendations for either internal or statutory changes, including the merger of existing suburban cities, the creation of further suburban cities, the annexation of territory by suburban cities, the creation of further special service districts, the merger of special service districts, or the expansion of urban service district boundaries.
The Commission is now ready to receive public comment prior to releasing their final recommendations. Each public meeting will accommodate up to thirty speakers. Each speaker will be provided three-minutes to address the Commission. Speakers may sign up in-person thirty minutes prior to the start of the meeting.
Public Comment Meetings
- Saturday, July 15 at 10 a.m. at the South Central Library, 7300 Jefferson Boulevard. Sign ups will begin at 9:30 a.m.
- Monday, July 17 at 6 p.m. at the West Louisville Central Community Center, 1300 W. Muhammad Ali Boulevard. Sign ups will begin at 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 18 at 6 p.m. at Southwest Valley High School, 10200 Dixie Highway. Sign ups will begin at 5:30 p.m.
- Monday, July 24 at 6 p.m. at Eastern High School, 12400 Old Shelbyville Road. Sign ups will begin at 5:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 25 at 6 p.m. at Atherton High School, 3000 Dundee Road. Sign ups will begin at 5:30 p.m.
- Monday, July 31 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 601 W. Jefferson Street (the public may enter the building through the Sixth Street entrance). Sign ups will begin at 5:30 p.m.
