In addition adopters pay for applicable Jefferson County licensing fees. ?We know it is a busy time for everyone and we are at critical point ? at our highest intakes of the year,? says Susan Oppel, KHS operations director. ?Adopt a study buddy and help us save more lives! ?Over the past month, Louisville Metro Animal Services and the Kentucky Humane Society have taken in more than 1,700 pets,? says Donald Robinson, assistant director for LMAS. Every animal adopted makes space for another animal who is in need of care.? ?To help with the influx of homeless cats and dogs, both organizations are in need of wish list items, such as carriers, blankets, wet food, collars and animal enrichment items like toys and soft treats,? says Susan Oppel, KHS operations director. ?While shopping for needed school supplies, pick up something for one of our needy pets.? All pets adopted from LMAS and KHS have been spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and given worm, flea and tick preventatives ? services which are valued at more than $300. Visit www.louisvilleky.gov/AnimalServices or kyhumane.org to see all adoptable pets. For more information, contact LMAS at (502) 473-7387 or louisvilleky.gov/AnimalServices or KHS at (502) 366-3355 or kyhumane.org. Adoption is pending approval of an application process that usually takes an hour or less. The ASPCA (the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) selected Louisville as its 2013 Partner Community. The three partner organizations?LMAS, KHS and Alley Cat Advocates?are working together to save more animal lives. The LMAS and KHS joint adoption promotion is an effort to get more pets in the community adopted into loving homes.
