Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell taps Jeff Derouen as First Assistant

September 28, 2022

Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell has named Jeff Derouen as his First Assistant, effective October 1.

Derouen will assume the office’s highest appointed position following the retirement of current First Assistant Ingrid Geiser. He joined the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office (JCAO) in February 2016 as Tax and Collections Section Chief. Derouen’s other responsibilities included oversight of all legal matters related to Metro foreclosures, property assessment appeals, code enforcement, delinquent tax payment plans, collections for all Louisville Metro, and representing the County Clerk, Sheriff, and PVA.  He also has handled Metro’s right of way franchises and utility-related work and represents the Jefferson County Board of Elections.

Prior to joining the JCAO, Derouen served seven years as the Executive Director of the Kentucky Public Service Commission, the state agency that regulates more than 1,500 electric, gas, water, sewer, and telecommunications entities, including LG&E. Derouen also previously served as Chief of Staff and Communications Director for Lieutenant Governor Dan Mongiardo and Communications Director and Deputy General Counsel for State Auditor Crit Luallen. He began his legal and prosecutorial career in the Jefferson County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office.

“Jeff Derouen has had a wide and diverse public service career, both in the practice of law and in the leadership of several government agencies,” O’Connell said. “I welcome Jeff’s counsel during this important time for our city.”
