Grace Period to obtain Pig Permit from LMAS ends Jan. 28th

Pot-bellied pigThe Louisville Metro Council has amended an ordinance which revised requirements for swine kept as pets in Jefferson County, and granted owners a grace period to comply with the law by Monday, Jan. 28th.  

Owners must meet the following requirements of the ordinance: 

  • All pigs must weigh less than 200lbs and be under 22-inches
  • The maximum of 3 pigs is allowed if you have less than .5 acres
  • Up to 7 pigs can be kept on .5 to 2-acres
  • There is no limit for 2 acres or more

Jefferson County pig owners must register any pigs kept as pets with Louisville Metro Animal Services and purchase a permit by Monday, Jan. 28th. Owners will be grandfathered in for purposes of their current weight and number owned per property.

Owners who do not register their pigs by the deadline could be cited and possibly fined.
