Fast Facts – a one-on-one with EMT Hiser

Q. What's your title and how long have you worked within Louisville Metro Emergency Services?
A. One year! I'm an EMT and am LMEMS paramedic student.
 
Q. Where are you from originally and what brought you to Louisville? If you're from Louisville, everyone wants to know... where did you go to high school?
A. I'm originally from Pewee Valley, and went to South Oldham High School.
 
Q. What motivated you to join Emergency Services and what is your favorite part about your daily work?
A. My family has always been involved in Emergency Services, and I believe there is no more selfless act than just being there for your fellow man in their time of need. I love that we get to show up every day and just play an advocate and friend for all those we meet. 
 
Q. How do you start your day?
A. Bathing and dropping off my toddler before my jam session on the way to work. 
 
Q. If you had guests visiting Louisville for the weekend, where is the first place you'd take them?
A. Louisville Slugger Field for a game!
 
Q. What is your go-to restaurant in town?
A. Rumors in Middletown.
 
Q. What do you do on your days off to relax and unwind?
A. Watch baseball, go shooting, and spend time with my wonderful family!
 
Q. Who inspires you?
A. My late grandfather Carlos. A GE retiree, politician, clergy member, former Jefferson Co Deputy Sheriff, an avid bowler…… this man was and always will be SUPERMAN!
 
Q. What's the next place you'd like to visit and why?
A. I would love to go to Germany so I can see the Alps in person.
 
Q. What has been your most memorable or rewarding experience on the job with Emergency Services?
A. Recognizing a stroke in the field and then finding out that due to our diligence and critical thinking that this individual was discharged to a rehab facility a few days later. 
 
Q. What's your word of advice for someone who is aspiring to a career in Emergency Services?
A. Don’t forget where you came from and don’t forget why you chose this field. Love your fellow man. A little bit of love and kindness can go a long way.
