District 2 hosting two COVID-19 vaccination events in the Newburg neighborhood
Free coronavirus vaccinations will be offered on February 21 and March 7
Louisville – The new COVID-19 testing site in the Newburg neighborhood is expanding with free COVID-19 vaccinations, starting Monday, February 21.
Earlier this month, Councilwoman Barbara Shanklin (D-2) announced free coronavirus testing would be available at the Newburg Church of Christ on East Indian Trail. Now the councilwoman is encouraging District 2 residents to take advantage of the vaccinations that will also be available at the same location.
Free coronavirus vaccines will be offered on February 21 and March 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. After these two events, leaders will reassess to see if additional events need to be scheduled.
The vaccines will be administered by Bluewater Diagnostics, and the staff will be prepared to offer Moderna, Pfizer, and J&J vaccines for both adults and children.
"With the COVID omicron variant still infecting members of our community at a high rate,” said Councilwoman Shanklin, “it is important that we as a community do everything we can to help protect ourselves and others from a potentially life-threatening illness. Because of this, Newburg Church of Christ, in partnership with Bluewater Diagnostics and with support of the District 2 office, will be offering COVID vaccinations right here in our community. I am hopeful that citizens in both our neighborhood, as well as surrounding neighborhoods, will come out and get vaccinated!"
The most recent COVID-19 data, as of February 13, shows there were 5,814 confirmed cases and 59 newly reported deaths in Jefferson County. Even though the number of confirmed cases declined over the past few weeks, Metro Louisville is still in the red zone because the incident rate remains high.
