Councilwoman Sexton Smith sponsors “Shakespeare in the Parks” production of “Julius Caesar” on Thursday, April 27th
Louisville – Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith (D-4) is sponsoring a very special free event for Baxter Square Park as one way to help everyone enjoy the beginning of spring.
In partnership with Kentucky Shakespeare, she is sponsoring a classic tale of political intrigue, deception, betrayal and the murder of a political leader when “Shakespeare in the Parks” production of Julius Caesar comes to Baxter Square Park on Thursday, April 27th.
“I want everyone to come out and enjoy themselves with this professional production that will enhance your springtime fun,” says Sexton Smith. “And it’s free.”
The Councilwoman and other Metro Council members are sponsoring the free production tour of Kentucky Shakespeare in various parks throughout Metro Louisville. The tour is now in its fourth year.
Kentucky Shakespeare, a not-for-profit charitable organization, professional theatre company, and the oldest free Shakespeare Festival in the United States has been offering free Shakespeare in Central Park in Old Louisville during the summer.
These tours were created to bring all areas of the city quality entertainment and awareness of the importance of the arts.
This year, “Shakespeare in the Parks” will bring an 85 minute, six actor version of Julius Caesar beginning at 6:00pm at Baxter Square Park located at 301 S 12th Street. The event will be held rain or shine.
“Councilwoman Sexton Smith has a deep appreciation of the arts and we are pleased she has joined us as one of our many partners who see the arts as an important part of our community,” says Matt Wallace of Kentucky Shakespeare. “Shakespeare in the Parks” is halfway through its touring schedule of 23 locations in the Metro Louisville area that will end on May 19th.
