Councilwoman Sexton Smith to kick off the first in a series of monthly “Cake Walks” with LMPD on Tuesday
Louisville – January 15th is a very special day for Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith (D-4). She shares the same birth date as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and on this date the first in a series of monthly “Cake Walks” begin in the district.
“I have always believed my birthday is a time for service to others in our community,” says the Councilwoman. “On Tuesday, I will be joining Major Andrew McClinton, the Commander of the LMPD’s First Division along with other officers and together we will connect with the people who live along Magazine Street.”
The Councilwoman is introducing “Cake Walks” as one way to break the ice and start a conversation between residents and LMPD. As she and the officers go from house to house on Magazine between 19th and 24th Streets they will be handing out cupcakes in honor of the Councilwoman’s birthday.
“It is a simple idea and the key is to connect with people and find out what they need from our fine men and women of the LMPD and at the same time residents will know just a few of the people who keep us safe,” says Sexton Smith.
The first “Cake Walk” starts at 4:00pm. The Councilwoman is planning to hold more “Cake Walks” on the 15th of each month in various areas throughout District 4.
