Councilwoman Sexton Smith calls on community to support the Back to School Amazing Community Benefit Concert this Saturday
Louisville – Councilwoman Barbara Sexton Smith (D-4) is calling on the community to come out and support a very important event to help homeless children and families in need by attending the Back to School Amazing Community Benefit Concert” this Saturday, August 3rd.
“A new school year is just around the corner, and its estimated there are nearly 4,700 students who qualify as homeless according to JCPS data right here in Metro Louisville,” says Sexton Smith. “This annual concert is one way to help those children start off a new school year the right way.”
The Annual Back to School Amazing Community Concert is part of a partnership between the Amazing Childcare Learning Center Corporation (ACLC) and Blessings-in-Backpacks (B.I.B). It is an important fundraising tool in their “Let’s Stress Poverty” campaign.
The concert is set for Saturday August 3rd at Headliners Music Hall, 1386 Lexington Rd., from 5:00pm until 10:00pm to experience the annual Amazing Community Concert.
Headlining the event, Louisville’s own Linkin’ Bridge, a dynamic group who placed in the Top 5 of America’s Got Talent competition. Special performance by AMPED a music education program that works with disadvantaged youth. Local music artists from the jazz genre to rhythm and blues. Miracle Dancers will perform.
According to the ACLC, the “Let’s Stress Poverty” campaign’s main priority area is the hard to reach population, those redlined neighborhoods which include individuals and families whom are disadvantaged leading to poor production in schools and life. Second priority is providing trauma informed care for the children in these areas and strengthening the foundations of these resilient families.
“I can think of no better way for everyone to come out and help these children in need,” says Sexton Smith. “There will be wonderful music and performing artists and an opportunity for the community to learn about the important work being done every day to help the homeless and disadvantaged children of our city.”
