Councilwoman Parrish-Wright issues statement on Nia Center Driver’s License Branch

February 27, 2024

Louisville (February 27, 2024) – Councilwoman Shameka Parrish-Wright (D-3) has issued the following statement regarding the Kentucky Department of Transportation (KYTC) driver’s license branch at the Nia Center, located at 2900 W. Broadway Street.

“I am a longtime West Louisville resident and moved to Shively in 2018. I regularly use the Nia Center for the wide array of services offered. I am so grateful for this branch, so I don’t have to go to a further location. Our city is growing in a beautiful way, and the new services offered through KYTC are experiencing necessary growing pains. I believe there is still a lot of confusion about the services different agencies offer. My family and I continue to intentionally use the Jefferson County Clerk’s Office, specifically the location on Amy Ave, for vehicle license plates and renewals. These locations are also experiencing record numbers daily from open to close.

Today I stopped by the branch off Dixie Highway before work and was forced to leave due to time constraints. I was number D52, and they were on number C52 when I left. Employees are working under a great deal of pressure trying to adapt to new systems, and the Clerk’s Office and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet staff are spending considerable time directing people to the right agency for service, as many folks often do not know the difference or right place to do their business.

We all deserve quality, efficient, service for these critical needs, but they need us to be patient with them, too. Let’s wrap our arms around one of the most used resources in our community while they adjust. We also encourage our community to apply for jobs with KYTC, given they have the budget to hire more help. We thank KYTC for their service and hope to be able to support them however we can so more people in west Louisville can access these important resources.”
