Councilwoman Leet Announces New Traffic Signal Coming to Westport Road at Ormsby Lane
LOUISVILLE, KY – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s (KYTC) approval of a new traffic signal at the intersection of Westport Road and Ormsby Lane is drawing praise from Metro Councilwoman Angela Leet (District 7).
Since being elected to office in 2015 Councilwoman Leet has heard from thousands of residents who live along the Westport Road Corridor about the need for added safety and traffic control. In fact, the location of this new traffic signal is one of the most accident prone areas along the Westport Road corridor.
Prior to Councilwoman Leet taking office in 2015 a plan was developed to add only a right turn lane to this intersection to make it easier for those who live near Ormsby Lane to access Westport Road. Recognizing that addition of two new multifamily developments and an increase in automobile accidents near the intersection, Councilwoman Leet decided to look for a better way to improve safety. She began working with traffic engineers from Louisville Metro Public Works which led to a traffic signal request to KYTC.
“This has been nearly 3 years in the making, but once I start something I don’t quit until the best outcome is reached. I appreciate that KYTC now recognizes the fact that this intersection needed a traffic signal if we are going to improve safety along this portion of Westport Road.” - Councilwoman Angela Leet, District 7
“The approval of the stop light at Westport and Ormsby is great news to the residents in this area. Traffic and the safety of drivers and pedestrians that use this intersection has been a long time concern of the residents in this area and a stop light will help address these concerns.” – Aaron McAndrew, President of the Sycamore Creek Homeowners Association
No time line has been established for the installation of the traffic signal.
