Councilwoman Fowler invites everyone to the 2017 Annual Southwest Community Festival this weekend

Louisville – The people of Southwest Louisville are ready to celebrate pride, hospitality and fun when they once again welcome thousands to the 2017 Southwest Community Festival on Saturday, October 14th, from 9:00am to 5:00pm at Sun Valley Park.

"The Community’s Festival is a defining moment for all of us who call Southwest Louisville home. It is our way of showing everyone our community spirit as we welcome our neighbors and old friends to kick back have some fun and enjoy themselves during the fall season. I encourage anyone and everyone to come out and join in what is sure to be an amazing event,” says Councilwoman Cindi Fowler (D-14).

 “I encourage people from every corner of our city to see what our end of town has to offer at the Southwest Festival. The festival is a showcase of everything South Louisville, featuring plenty of local food and fun for all ages. I hope you will join me in celebrating our community,” says Metro Council President David Yates (D-25).

The Friday evening prior to the Festival, the Valley Woman’s Club will host their traditional Bean Soup Dinner. All proceeds will go to support the club. The dinner will begin at 4:30pm and run until 7:00pm.

On Saturday morning, the Plumb Lodge #862 will host a pancake breakfast; proceeds go to the group’s scholarship fund. The breakfast will feature sausage, biscuits and gravy, and a wide variety of pancakes beginning at 8:00am and running until 11:00am.

Both events will be held at the Sun Valley Community Center.

This year’s event will offer a wide variety of entertainment.

This year’s attractions include:

TODDLER TOWN is a free area designed just for the pre-school and younger aged children
KIDS' CITY has inflatables, arts & crafts, and games that speak to all energetic pre-teens
TEEN CITY features games and entertainment that young adults will enjoy
SENIOR TENT is a wealth of resources and activities for our senior population
19th Annual River City Street Rods Car Show &Motorcycle Show

This year’s headline musical entertainment will feature one of Louisville’s favorite local area band: The Louisville Crashers.

"Southwest Louisville is a wonderful part of Metro Louisville and this festival has always been special to the people of this area,” says Councilwoman Vicki Aubrey Welch (D-13). ”This is an annual reunion for family and friends to welcome the fall season."

 “The Southwest Festival is exactly the kind of community-building event that brings neighbors together and makes us all proud to be from Southwest Louisville,” says Councilman Rick Blackwell (D-12).

Joining Council members as sponsors of the Festival are Meijer along with LG&E. Sun Valley Park is located at 6505 Bethany Lane.

There is a $5 parking fee which includes a chance to win many prizes. The parking area can be accessed from the Lower River Road entrance. Patrons for the Bean Soup Dinner and Pancake Breakfast can access free parking from the Bethany Lane entrance.
