Councilmembers Reno-Weber and Owen will host community meeting to address recent gun violence
Louisville (August 4, 2023) – In the wake of recent shootings near Bardstown Road and Frankfort Avenue that have deeply shaken the community, Councilman Ben Reno-Weber (D-8) and Councilman Andrew Owen (D-9) are hosting a community meeting this Sunday, August 6, 2023, from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. at the Douglass Boulevard Christian Church, located 2005 Douglass Boulevard.
The community meeting will discuss the current situation, what is being done in response, and solicit community input. Several Metro Government Departments including Major Jason Grissom with LMPD’s 5th Division, Director Paul Callanan with the Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods, and Director Brad Silveria with Alcohol Beverage Control, as well as other stakeholders have been invited to provide the community with updates.
The incident on Bardstown Road involved three victims of gun violence and occurred early Monday morning in the 1500 block of Bardstown Road.
“This tragic event has brought grief and concern to our community, prompting us to come together and discuss constructive solutions. I encourage you and your neighbors to attend. As a united front, I believe we can build a safer District 8,” said Councilman Reno-Weber.
The incident on Frankfort Avenue involved a civilian and LMPD officers and occurred on Thursday evening near the 2000 block of Frankfort Avenue.
“I’m committed to ensuring the wellbeing and security of all residents in District 9. By organizing this community meeting, we hope to strengthen the relationship among community members and reaffirm our commitment to a safer city,” said Councilman Owen.
