Councilmembers Reno-Weber and Owen announce new LMPD initiative after community public safety meeting

September 01, 2023

Louisville (September 1, 2023) – Following last month’s community meeting on public safety, Councilmembers Ben Reno-Weber (D-8) and Andrew Owen (D-9) are excited to announce a new LMPD enforcement strategy focused on addressing crime and enhancing the quality of life in the 5th Division. This initiative is set to begin on September 4, 2023.

“This is another tangible step forward to address the violent crime in the district and is a direct result of your community engagement. I hope this new initiative is a success and leads to a more comprehensive program for the entire 5th Division. A special thanks to Major Grissom for his leadership, and prompt response to the concerns of our residents,” said Councilman Reno-Weber.

The upcoming initiative will increase enforcement along the Bardstown Road, Baxter Avenue, Frankfort Avenue and Brownsboro Road corridors in Council Districts 8 and 9. Over the course of two weeks, the emphasis will be on a proactive approach against crime by increasing officer patrols and engagement in the community. Officers will be conducting walking patrols, traffic enforcement, and have an increased presence in the area through Saturday, September 16.

“This new initiative for increased police presence and patrol is more than just a strategy, it’s a commitment to the well-being of our community. We’re all in this together, and we appreciate your continuing dialogue and engagement in the process,” said Councilman Owen.
