Councilman Yates announces results of the 3rd Annual Friendsgiving Turkey Drive
Louisville – Councilman David Yates (D-25) joined entertainer Dusty Leigh to announce more than 350 turkeys have been donated to families in the South and Southwest Louisville area this Thanksgiving.
“Once again, the community and local businesses have joined together to help us help those in need,” said Councilman Yates. “I am proud of the generosity of our communities and the private sector. No one should go hungry during this Thanksgiving and holiday season.”
Two years ago, Leigh began this initiative to benefit families in need during the holiday season.
“I started this to help give back to my community and make a difference for families that are having a tough time during the holidays,” said Leigh. “This is about helping the people of our city and showing them that there are people who care and want to help.”
The Councilman was also joined by the Southwest and South Louisville Community Ministries & LMPD officers who will be working to deliver and provide the turkeys that have been donated.
Patrick Bissig and the Louisville Dream Center accepted one-hundred turkeys and are providing the side dishes to make the donation a full holiday dinner to be served tonight.
“Our mission is to be a community of support, providing free resources and services that address hunger, homelessness, mental health, poverty, addiction, abuse, education and employment,” said Bissig. “This incredible donation will serve so many appreciative people and families.
Local businesses like Craig and Jenny Kute’s Save-A-Lot joined in by directly donating 20 turkeys to the cause.
“Taylor Blvd Save-A-Lot has been a proud member of the South End for 15 years,” said Jenny. “As a family-owned and locally owned business, we are excited and honored to be part of this community effort to give back to our neighbors!”
The campaign had a go fund me page for the public and saw large monetary donations from many local area businesses:
Next Level Sports Nutrition on Dixie
J Gumbo’s in the Highlands and Frankfort Avenue
Premium Motor Sales

The Friendsgiving Turkey Drive was a massive success with over 350
