Councilman James joins Four Roses Bourbon to present the 19th Garvin Gate Blues Festival

October 8, 2014

Louisville – Another great Old Louisville tradition returns this weekend highlighting some of the best blues music to be found anywhere in the area and the best thing of all: it’s FREE.

Councilman David James (D-6) and Four Roses Bourbon invite the community to the 19th Garvin Gate Blues Festival to be held on Friday and Saturday, October 10th and 11th at The Gate on Garvin Place at Oak Street in historic Old Louisville.

“What began as a very simple idea grew into a festival that has become a favorite community event,” says James. “If you come out and join us, you can experience Garvin Gate, another of our unique areas of Old Louisville, and it’s not a bad place to be for a fall weekend.”

It began as a simple jam session back in 1988. A festival was born with music in the parking lot of the Rudyard Kipling and then the surrounding neighborhood made the offer to host more music. In no time at all, a fall tradition became a laid back way of life in Old Louisville.

"This is a great event that has grown to be one of the top music events in the Southeast. It is another opportunity to showcase Old Louisville and all that is good about this neighborhood,” says Howard Rosenberg, Chair of the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council. “We pride ourselves on the great diversity that this festival represents drawing from all parts of this region and other states.  It is a chance for us to give back to the neighborhood."

The Garvin Gate Blues Festival is a free event. A portion of the proceeds concession, parking and souvenirs will benefit the Council on Developmental Disabilities.

“This Festival is also one way we can help preserve the historic nature of the Garvin Gate Neighborhood in Old Louisville,” says James. “I want to thank Four Roses Bourbon for partnering with us as we keep Old Louisville unique. Help yourself to some great blues this weekend,”
