Council members Shanklin, Ackerson and Magre join LMPD’s Sixth Division for National Night Out
Louisville –It began by simply asking Americans to turn on their front porch lights as a way of showing criminals the neighborhood was taking back the streets and fighting crime as part of National Night Out.
On Tuesday, August 4th, Council members Barbara Shanklin (D-2), Brent T. Ackerson (D-26) and Steve Magre (D-10) encourage the residents of their districts to join the men and women of the Sixth Division of Louisville Metro Police to learn how they can help in that fight to keep everyone safe.
“Every year at National Night Out I am encouraged to see how our officers are meeting and talking with people. Communication and information about how to fight crime is essential if we want to build a strong relationship of protection,” says Shanklin. “National Night Out is an important way to connect with those in law enforcement who protect all of us.”
This year the Sixth Division will join the Seventh Division to host National Night Out at Target on Jefferson Boulevard from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
“Every year in August, we try to send a strong message to the criminal element out there that we want to keep our streets and our homes safe,” says Ackerson. “We need to partner with police officers and other law enforcement to make sure the criminals do not have the advantage.”
“Many of us remember growing up and keeping an eye on our neighbors and our kids,” says Magre. “This is an extension of that same principle and in this case, the men and women of the LMPD want to be a part of our neighborhoods. They can show us how to keep everyone out of harm’s way.”
Officers of the Sixth Division will be on hand to meet residents and talk about crime prevention and how to protect you and your family. Information about organizing and maintaining a block watch program will be available along with other crime prevention information.
There will also be food, refreshments and other activities.
