Council members George and Triplett spread awareness about the dangers of celebratory gunfire

July 1, 2020

Louisville – Two Louisville Metro Council members hope their neighbors have a safe Fourth of July weekend.

Council members Nicole George (D-21) and Kevin Triplett (D-15) will continue the annual celebratory gunfire awareness campaign, reminding residents that when people shoot a firearm into the air within a densely populated area it is likely to cause a neighbor damage to their property, injury, or even fatality.

“This has been a long-standing issue in many of our communities. Almost every block has someone who has had a personal experience,” says George.

“Shooting off a gun or a rifle to some may be one way to celebrate but in the long run it is not safe,” says Triplett.

Both council members will continue to walk in their districts with reminders of the dangers of celebratory gunfire and encourage neighbors to share with friends and family.

The door hangers encourage the community to do neighbor-to-neighbor reminders about the dangers of this practice. If you feel unsafe and would like to report celebratory gunfire, you can make a report by calling 911.
