California Community Center to be closed for repairs beginning March 18

March 07, 2024

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 7, 2024) – California Community Center, 1600 St. Catherine Street, will be closed beginning Monday, March 18 for the installation of a new HVAC system and restroom upgrades throughout the facility. The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of June.

Assistant Director of Recreation Ben Johnson, who oversees Louisville Parks and Recreation’s 14 community centers, said the department is working on identifying resources and programs operating in the area for youths and adults unable to use the center during the closure.

“While our center users will be inconvenienced for a time during this closure, these are needed and long-awaited updates that are going to benefit them for years to come,” Johnson said.

The updates to the center will cost around $800,000, Johnson said.
