Busy Day for Louisville Water Crews

July 09, 2015

Activity is increasing for Louisville Water crews as the temperatures plunge. Our crews worked 15 water main breaks yesterday, a typical day is two - three, and crews are already on the scene of five new breaks this morning.  Overnight, we received dozens of calls from customers whose internal pipes had frozen or burst.  We can't help with that but customers often call us in a panic because they don't know how to turn off the water inside their home.  Again, we're encouraging customers to locate, find and tag their water shut-off valve. Watch our video that explains how to find the valve.  Frozen internal plumbing seems to be a big issue; we've received over 200 calls this week from customers looking for assistance.  If you've reported a main break, we ask for your patience. Although we have additional crews out and extra members on each crew, work can be slowed by road conditions, as well as the necessary breaks our crews must take in order to stay warm. See crews in your area? Feel free to offer them coffee or hot chocolate. May of these crew members have been out in the frigid temps working in wet areas for hours.
