Budget Committee invites public comment for two virtual public hearings on the proposed FY 2020-20201 Budget
Louisville –The people of Louisville Metro will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed FY 2020-2021 Capital and Operating Budgets.
The Metro Council’s Budget Committee is inviting the public to speak on budget-related topics at two public hearings which begin at 5:00 p.m. on May 7th, and 6:00 p.m. on May 13th . Both hearings will be held virtually via WebEx Events and advanced registration is required.
“It is important the public let us know their priorities as we move forward with the budget process,” says President David James (D-6). “This year our format for the hearings is something new because safety is still a top goal for the public and our council members. Input from the people we serve is vital to this process.”
“Getting public input on the budget was one of the reasons I supported a longer budget process in 2016. Virtual public hearings, which are the only way we can see and hear from residents this year, present significant technological issues. We ask the public to be patient and understanding and note there is also a form for written comments on the budget,” says Councilman Bill Hollander (D-9), who chairs the Budget Committee.
“These hearings are vital for the formation of a budget that will serve the entire community,” says Budget Committee Vice Chair Kevin Kramer (R-11). “Anyone with suggestions for funding, savings or innovative ways to deliver essential services can participate and have their voice heard by the Metro Council.”
Guidelines for the two public hearings are as follows:
Only one designated speaker may speak for each non-profit group
You do not have to be a member of a nonprofit group to speak
Each person will have three (3) minutes to speak
Be prepared for any follow up questions from the committee.
The Committee is interested in hearing from anyone in the community
