43rd Annual Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour brings festive fun this weekend
Louisville – Experience yuletides past in one of the city’s unique neighborhoods when the 43rd Annual Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour gets underway this Saturday, December 7th and Sunday, December 8th.
“Old Louisville rings in the spirit of the holiday season with a beautiful tour of Victorian mansions and townhomes decorated with lights, tinsel, and good cheer,” says President David James (D-6).
The Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour is from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day. The Tour covers the square block that lies between Magnolia and Hill, and 4th and 6th Streets and includes St. James and Belgravia Courts. Every year, thousands of visitors from all over the city and the surrounding area take the time to experience Christmas in 19th Century surroundings.
“For 43 years, Old Louisville has opened its doors during the holiday season with a festive and welcoming spirit," said Susan Coleman Layman, Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour Chair. "I invite you to see for yourself how our historic neighborhood blends Yuletides past with today’s urban vitality during this year’s Old Louisville Holiday Home Tour, a beloved community tradition.”
The tour provides free parking behind Cochran Elementary School at 500 W. Gaulbert Avenue. Entry into the parking lot is from Lee Street, look for posted signs.
Beginning at approximately 11:45am, then every 10-15 minutes thereafter, shuttle vans pick up and circulate continuously between the school parking lot, the Visitors Center in Central Park and throughout the tour area. Tour homes are typically within walking distance for most people, but shuttles do stop at each one.
The event is the primary fundraiser of the Old Louisville Neighborhood Council, a nonprofit organization that serves as the primary advocate for Old Louisville’s residents and businesses, protects the historic preservation district, and advances the arts in the community.
“I invite everyone to come and experience the wonder of the holidays in Old Louisville,” says President James.
