Transportation systems have historically disenfranchised large areas of American cities. In 2019 Louisville Metro Government passed a complete streets ordinance which calls on Louisville Metro Public Works and other agencies to prioritizes the creation of streets that keep all road users safe which ultimately increases equity in our city.
In 2021, the President Biden's American Jobs Plan invests:
"$20 billion to improve road safety for all users, including increases to existing safety programs and a new Safe Streets for All program to fund state and local “Vision Zero” plans and other improvements to reduce crashes and fatalities, especially for cyclists and pedestrians".
