Current Transportation Planning Efforts
Long-range planning studies are ongoing for two of the city's deadliest corridors: Broadway and Preston Highway/Preston Street. Led by the Office of Advanced Planning & Sustainability, the studies incorporate Complete Streets and Vision Zero objectives by redesigning the streets for all users and improving safety through proven safety countermeasures. These studies are supported by Move Louisville, the city's long-range transportation plan, and Plan 2040, Louisville's comprehensive plan.
All major metropolitan areas have a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO). The Kentuckiana Regional Planning and Development Agency (KIPDA) is the metropolitan planning organization for the Louisville region. KIPDA is updating its Metropolitan Transportation Plan, the long-range vision for transportation in the region. Connecting Kentuckiana 2050, KIPDA's Metropolitan Transportation Plan update, is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2023.
