Want To Donate Property To Metro?

The Louisville and Jefferson County Landbank Authority, Inc. accepts donations of real property suitable for rehabilitation or  redevelopment if the property is owned free and clear of any encumbrances. A donation may be considered if the only liens on the property are delinquent property taxes owed to Louisville Metro Government and/or  Louisville Metro Government-assessed fines/fees. Title insurance may be required. Please call our office if you have any questions about donation eligibility.

If you own property in Louisville Metro and wish to donate to the Landbank Authority, please fill out and submit our online Real Property Donation Form or fill out this editable pdf of our Donation Form and print and submit the form to:

Office of Vacant and Public Property Administration
ATTN: VAP Staff
444 South Fifth Street, 5th Floor
Louisville, KY 40202

If the property has outstanding fines, penalties and/or fees assessed by Louisville Metro, the donor must pay the outstanding fines, penalties and/or fees or print and complete a Waiver Request Form (PDF) and Statement of Financial Hardship (PDF). The Waiver Request Form explains why the Property owner owes outstanding Louisville Metro fines, penalties and/or fees and must be completed in full. The Statement of Financial Hardship details the assets and liabilities of a Property owner who asserts that they are unable to pay outstanding Louisville Metro fines, penalties and/or fees due to financial hardship. To request a waiver, submit both forms to the Office of Vacant and Public Property Administration at the address listed above.

Owners donating Property to the Landbank may be entitled to an income tax deduction. Owners should contact their tax preparer for information regarding possible tax deductions.

If you have questions or would like more information about our donation process, please contact the Office of Vacant and Public Property Administration staff at 502-574-4016. We are happy to walk you through the process.

Property that is in foreclosure, which is encumbered only by delinquent tax liens that have not been purchased by a third party and/or fines, penalties and/or fees assessed by Louisville Metro may be considered for donation. Title must be free of all other liens or encumbrances. Donors must provide the Landbank with an owner’s title insurance policy and a general warranty deed.
