Meet the Team
Sustainability within the Office of Advanced Planning and Sustainability is comprised of a four-person team. Learn more about each of our Sustainability staff members below.
Tamara Sluss, Ph.D. is the Assistant Director in the Office of Advanced Planning and Sustainability and the Brownfields Coordinator for Louisville Metro Government. Originally from Ashland, KY, she earned her doctorate in biology from the University of Louisville. She served as a professor of biology at Kentucky State University until 2018 and served as the director of the interdisciplinary master’s program in Sustainability at the University of Louisville from 2018-2022. Her sustainability interests are broad, but include brownfields and land use, freshwater resources, reducing and mitigating the impacts of climate change, and policy transformation to achieve sustainable development goals.

Sumedha Rao is the Sustainability Specialist in the Office of Advanced Planning and Sustainability. She is committed to catalyzing robust, inclusive, and collaborative solutions for a greener Louisville. Sumedha holds a master’s degree in Sustainability Science from University of Massachusetts in Amherst and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from St. Joseph’s College in India. She also holds the LEED AP accreditation.

Zachary Tyler is the Energy Manager for Louisville Metro Government. Originally from Winchester, Ky., he graduated with a degree in Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering from the University of Kentucky, with certification from the Power and Energy Institute of Kentucky. He then worked as an energy consultant for UK to help the university realize emissions reductions commitments.
